Now that we’ve put the pom-poms down and picked up the spikes, I’m realizing just how much of my sideline cheer gear is making a comeback for track season! While the sport may have changed, my need to be comfortable, prepared, and ready for anything hasn’t.
This season, I’m making some upgrades to my essentials list. First up, I’m ditching my regular wagon for a double-decker wagon—because between my tent, chairs, and all the “day-of” necessities, I need to make just one trip from the car to the track. No more back-and-forth hauls!
Speaking of chairs, I love my heated chair, but I may be switching things up with a hammock-style chair or the fully reclining chair for a little extra relaxation. Another exciting addition? The Ninja cooler—I’m obsessed with its dry vault compartment to keep food separate and fresh.
Game Day Essentials
Whether it’s soccer, football, cheer, or track, having the right gear makes all the difference.
Here are my track mom must-haves:
Pop-up tent with sides – Essential for shade and wind protection.
Cooler – A must for keeping drinks and snacks chilled.
Double Decker Wagon – Perfect for one haul.
Water jug – Hydration is key!
Picnic Blanket – If you have small ones and don’t want wet grass seeping through your blanket.
First aid kit – Because bumps and scrapes happen.
Heated/Massage stadium chairs – Upgrading my old ones because 6-8 p.m. bleacher practices take a toll.
Fully reclining chair – A streamlined 2-in-1 option instead of a cot and hammock-style chair.
Self-heated mug – Hot coffee or tea is a necessity.
Portable heater – I hate being cold!
Portable fan & mister – Because SoCal afternoons get hot.
Neck heater – Game changer for chilly mornings.
Neck fan – A lifesaver for those hot days.
Personal fan – For when the sun is extra.
Portable power supply – Because phone batteries never last.
Toiletries kit – Includes tissue, wipes, and seat covers.
Purell sanitizer packs – Instant clean hands.
Speaker – A little music never hurts.
Rechargeable hand warmers – Cold hands are no fun.
Cooling towels – Instant relief from the heat.
Umbrella – For rain or shine.
Sunglasses, snacks, and a good book – Because waiting between events can feel long.
Be Ready for All Seasons
Track season starts in the colder months and ends in the heat of summer. In Southern California, those early mornings might have you craving hot coffee, but don’t let the chill fool you—afternoons can be scorching!
I’m one of those people who cannot stand being cold, so I always lean toward heated gear. It reminds me of cheer season—starting practices in the blazing summer and finishing in the freezing winter.
